1. Introduction
ScanMind ("we", "our", or "the App") is a document scanning and OCR application for Android developed by Joseph. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data ScanMind collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
Key Principle: ScanMind processes all documents entirely on your device. Your scanned documents, images, and extracted text are never uploaded to any server.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data Processed Locally (Never Leaves Your Device)
- Scanned Documents & Images: All photos captured or imported are stored only in your device's local storage.
- OCR Text: Text extraction is performed on-device using Google ML Kit's on-device models. Extracted text is stored locally and is never transmitted.
- Document Metadata: File names, folders, tags, favorites, and organizational data are stored in a local database on your device.
- App Preferences: Settings such as theme, language, and scan preferences are stored locally using Android SharedPreferences.
2.2 Data Collected by Third-Party Services
- Google AdMob: ScanMind displays advertisements via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google ML Kit (On-Device): ScanMind uses ML Kit's on-device text recognition. No image data is sent to Google servers. ML Kit may collect basic usage analytics as described in ML Kit Terms.
3. How We Use Data
- To provide document scanning, enhancement, and OCR functionality — all processed locally on your device.
- To organize and manage your scanned documents (folders, tags, favorites).
- To display advertisements through Google AdMob to support free access to the App.
- To remember your preferences and settings across sessions.
4. Data Storage & Security
- All document data is stored in your device's internal storage and a local Room database.
- We do not operate any servers or cloud infrastructure for this App.
- Data security depends on your device's built-in security features (screen lock, encryption).
- When you delete a document within the App, it is permanently removed from local storage.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal data to any third parties. Data sharing only occurs when:
- You explicitly share a document or PDF using Android's share functionality.
- Google AdMob collects advertising-related data as described in Section 2.2.
6. Camera & Storage Permissions
ScanMind requests the following permissions:
- Camera: Required to capture document photos for scanning.
- Storage / Media: Required to save scanned documents and import images from your gallery.
These permissions are used solely for the App's core functionality and are never used to access unrelated files or data.
7. Children's Privacy
ScanMind is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through AdMob interactions, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
8. Your Rights
Since all document data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:
- Access & Export: View and export any document at any time via the App.
- Deletion: Delete individual documents or clear all App data through Android Settings.
- Ad Preferences: Manage ad personalization via your device's Google Settings > Ads.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
